| Rallying the Goddess |
They can fly!
The DS was a formidable rally car, especially when the going got tough when it out-performed much more powerful competitors. Amongst its triumphs are the numerous Monte Carlo Rally wins as well as the 1974 World Cup Rally. From 1959 to 1973 the DS won all major rallies. During the 1972 Chamonix winter rally Björn Waldegaard was driving so fiercely that his front right tyre came off the rim. The Swede then put his DS in the high clearance position and finished the race on three wheels, without loosing a place. The DS's final victory was in 1975 when Jean Deschasseaux & Plassard were placed 4th overall in the Rallye du Maroc and 1st in the Tourism Class. |
