One of the first items that needed attention was the road wheels they were in a pretty sorry state. The wheels and tyres came off and was sent to a local sandblasting company for a quick dusting inside and out, a few coats of grey primer and a few top coats of Gris Rose they were like new. The original Michelin XAS tyres went back on and the wheel trims were given a good polish with Solvol Autosol and still looking good after 18 years. |

The same treatment was given to the hydraulic reservoir except it was given a couple of coats of clear lacquer, however time has taken it back to a slightly rusty condition. I spotted a brand new reservoir for sale on eBay which I won at the ridiculous price of £ 67.11 from a guy in Germany. |

The contact in the centre of the distributor cap had worn away and the spring had corroded so a new cap, rotor arm and plug leads were fitted. This is a good time to mention to take a note of which plug lead originally goes where. |

| September 2006 | This was the state of the old condenser. The points had also corroded, then I was wondering why there was no spark? So off to the local motor accessory shop in Leyland and how we laughed when I asked for plugs, points and condenser for a 32 year old Citroen DS. After blowing the dust off a few boxes he came up with everything I wanted. Well done to Autosave. Back home the distributor was removed and stripped and cleaned, new points and condenser fitted. An initial gap of 15 thou was made. After re-fitting the distributor with the aid of a test light an initial setting of 8 degrees BTDC was made until the correct dwell and ignition timing could be made, correct settings can be found here The distributor cap and rotor arm were still in good condition. The plug leads however were not, the carbon trace had broken down and they had a high resistance. I had a new set of Citroen bougicord copper wire leads in the box which after 10 minutes in the oven to make them supple was fitted. After a quick clean of the carburettor and primed with some fresh fuel a few turns of the ignition key and the engine bursts into life, soon after the pressure regulator cutting in and out the suspension started to rise back to the normal ride height. |

| September 2006 | A bit of scare today. After running the engine for about half an hour the engine spluttered to a stop, I still had some fuel in the tank so I instinctly removed the fuel pump. having stripped and cleaned it I couldn't really find anything wrong with it. After refitting it and still not re-starting I topped up the fuel tank and she soon started, nothing really lost and another component restored. | |||||
